Well, its been many months, but I found it necessary to post at last and break a rule I have, not posting links or names of things I’m involved, since it feels like name dropping but this seems the proper way to go for a change.
The project I’ve been working on for the last few months is coming along, I won’t say how but I will say that the client is happy and it shows by their share of the work they are doing, click here to see what I mean. Most of my life for the last few months has been this project.
Needless to say, thanks to all that time and pay, we (Jaro and I) might be able to start looking at houses.
Pretty much after today. Find out, no benefits, but I am promised 50 hours a week, even if I don’t work more then 40, get payed for the extra 10.
The place has it all, movies, TV shows, theater, puppets, actors, producers, directors, sound stage, recording studio, prop making, writers, artist, singers, animation (2D,3D), real life, casting, demos, tours, party events and what not.
They don’t have a certain level of professionalism, no policies for a lot of the given stuff. They hire on a rush, so first come first server bases, for example the guy who is technically my boss (been there 2 months longer then me, and he was hired during my honeymoon), has only, and based on what I can tell, about 4-5 years experience as IT vs. my 8 going on 9, he also has none at all with the film/television, entertainment industry.
I will see where my contract takes me and what happens, so much stuff, that I think could be better, but then again, I will wait till the company starts asking me what do I think, which I doubt it, since they don’t seem to grasp some of the stuff the “computer geeks” do.
The first day at the new job, excited, a bit nervous. This is one of the places I wanted to work for and hopefully, it will also be the actual jump point for my career.
I did take the job, figure the benefits where going to cost the same if I contributed at the current/soon to be old job or get an individual one while I get the offer for permanent or Jaro gets a job. Will start there Nov 5, so this is the one before last Saturday I work, as a part of my regular schedule, back to having a Mon-Fri 9-5 kind of week, not sure on the hours yet.
There is a comment that I will probably be working 40-60 hours a week to start. I’m excited, since I get to help re-build/re-vamp the whole hard/software infrastructure which also add more well renown companies that I have worked for.
I just got an offer from a company. Its 20% more then what I make now, no benefits because it is contract and it is for 6-12 months with possibility of becoming a permanent job.
Opinions??
If you want details or what company, I will answer. Just trying to not let that influence, not yet.
- fight mundane monotonous repetition?
- boredom?
- dumb, blind, ignorant people?
That is a brief abstract of my life lately.
Less then 2 weeks, almost there. Good news, Jaro got the dress and its all good. Anything left now its just a commodity/luxury/bonus for the wedding. Just have to decide on details for the rehearsal dinner. Figure out what I will do the morning of, since I have most of the morning.
Work is coming along, pretty much rig to keep “down” the number of bad machines. Nothing else going on, just trying to figure how to waste time till Thursday before the day, nervous but getting more excited, and USC first football game which is this Saturday is no help. ![]()
Well, its been awhile, and I’m still going pretty much going at work none stop. Systems that they added, pretty much fail on the drive regularly, and the sad part is, it hasn’t been over 2 months yet, some people were expecting it to last at least 3.
Wedding, most is done, just a few dangling things, like no or late RSVPs. Also the rehearsal dinner, is still not set. Hopefully Jaro will get the dress or at least try it today, so she can get the final stuff done on it (16 days left).
Someone mentioned it and struck a cord with me. I paint the Golden Gate Bridge, I start at one end and by the time I reach the other end, go back and start again.
Numbers are not as bad as they used to be but they are not where I wanted them to stay, plus they didn’t really tell me but we are adding 1500 more procs (which translates to 187.5 machines, which is not possible, so I think it will be more of 1200, anyway) and since I’m responsible for them, I should have been the first person to:
- Tell
- Ask if they will work
- Show what it is
- Show how it works
Needless to say, I’m still not sure what is going on. Well, I’ve been working pretty much none stop for the last 3 days and keeps going. No coffee, and I have been sleeping well, but it seems like it is not enough. Some people have to organize their time better if they are going to set limits and then throw the blame around and have others work over-over-time.
Another sad thing, the current infrastructure can’t handle what we already have, and they are talking not only adding more systems, but more projects with out looking at what needs to be expanded, build redundancies, etc. We are drowning on an overwhelming need for what we can not provide.
Amongst all the things to do, and I’m stuck in the office on Saturdays. Like they told me when they offered the job, that I would work Saturdays, well, here I am.
Anyway, for the wedding, just a few more things to do, by the way, if anyone has any songs they wouldn’t mind sharing, please do so. I’m in charge of the music and I have to put a playlist together. 2 Months, RSVP are now starting to come in.
Going to try relax later and play some, and then maybe do some more work on Chapter III. I’m actually feeling like I can be productive in that front. Sadly that is not the case in other places.
